2nd Kuala Lumpur Scouts teamed up with Kuala Lumpur Rangers for a slightly soggy camp at the beginning of December. They had to solves the clues to work out who stole Christmas, from where, and when and what it was they stole, as well as completing as many of the 40 challenges set over the weekend as they could: from making the leaders a cup of tea, making breakfast, to gutting fish, they certainly had a lot to keep them occupied!
So impressed with all the Scouts, and Cubs, who attended this camp...what an amazing experience! Some more photos from James' phone; fantastic to see the Scouts mucking in and having a great time :-) This was such a great opportunity for our Scouts to meet with Scouts their own age and they all got on like a house on fire asking when their next joint activity is going to be :-) There were only 5 from 2nd KL and 5 from 1st KL but they really mucked in well and were very tolerant of the Beavers who adopted many of them as older brothers/sisters. Having been slightly disappointed by the raft building exercise, the Scouts had a whale of a time once they got onto the water. We had lots of guests visiting for this camp including our District Commissioner, Jon Gill and his wife, who is also our Nights Away Assessor, Leanne Allen and her son, and Caro Drumm with her daughter from Chiang Mai and Bangkok respectively. Last, but not least, we had Jon Copner who is the Unit 99 (British Scouting Overseas) leader for World Scout Jamboree so it was great for Rupert and I to meet him. William and George had the privilege of being invested by Jon Gill which doesn't happen very often in Rest of World District :-) There are a lot of photos to look through, but we were trying to make sure each Scout featured more than once! A group of former Scouts are working at the research station in Antarctica and have devised a set of challenges for Cubs and Scouts to earn a special Antarctic Challenge award. 2nd KL Scouts have taken up the challenge and have so far completed 1 and a bit of the 4 challenges required to qualify (the rest will be done next term). Here they are navigating caterpillar skiing :-) Even though it had to be cut short, the Scouts managed to fit a lot in :-) Sorry it's taken so long to get this uploaded...as you can see, everyone had a great time and we look forward to the next one (we may even have enough Scouts to do a Scouts only camp :-0) I have created a Google album - Scouts of all the photos taken and you can download any you want as a memento of the weekend. The Scouts really rose to the challenge of this weekend for their Outdoor Challenge Award**. Lots of personal challenges overcome; especially the 1.5 hour hike into the jungle and back to build their bivouac. The Scouts were the first asleep, and last to wake up both nights: working so hard during the day :-) Flag pole gadget constructed by the Scouts, complete with functioning string to raise the flag which we did with proper ceremony. Cooking dinner on the first night, breakfast on the first morning, and eating the potatoes & corn they cooked on the campfire on Sat night
